After the Second World War, the 1950 Cup was originally planned to be held in Brazil, but due to the difficulties caused by the war and its aftermath, it was instead hosted by Uruguay. It is perhaps for that reason that this edition of the competition has come to be known as the "Ace of Hearts" World Cup.
